Our take

Eight people around the world find themselves psychically linked, able to borrow each other’s skills and occupy each other’s bodies. The Wachowskis use it as a machine for empathy — a trans woman in San Francisco, a closeted actor in Mexico City, a Kenyan bus driver, a Berlin thief, all inside one another’s lives.

The plot is frequently incoherent and the budget went on shooting in nine countries rather than on tidying the script. Nobody cares. The São Paulo Pride sequence and the group set-pieces are pure sincerity, Netflix cancelled it, the fans forced a finale film, and Nomi remains one of the great trans characters written by trans creators.

The plot, officially

One gunshot, one death, one moment out of time that irrevocably links eight minds in disparate parts of the world, putting them in each other's lives, each other's secrets, and in terrible danger. Ordinary people suddenly reborn as "Sensates."
